Once you start building your own white-label platform with Dollie you'll quickly want to start connecting and setting up your domains. Many have gone before you and in this article we're giving you some tips that we believe will lead to the optimal setup for your platform.

Tip 1 - Put your Customer Portal (Your WP installation with the Dollie Hub Plugin installed) on a subdomain.

When it comes to setting up a customer portal or dashboard, it's important to consider how it will be integrated into your existing website. We strongly recommend creating a separate WordPress installation solely dedicated to your Hub.

This allows you to keep your main domain (e.g. yourbusiness.com) and landing page separate from your customer portal, which can be accessed via a subdomain such as dashboard.yourbusiness.com.

Using a subdomain has several benefits.

  • Using a subdomain makes it clear to users that they are accessing a separate part of your website that is dedicated to their needs.

  • Using a subdomain allows you to keep your main domain focused on promoting your business and providing general information to visitors. This can help avoid confusion and make it easier for customers to find what they're looking for.

  • By using a separate WordPress installation for your customer portal, you can ensure that the portal has the necessary features and functionality to meet the specific needs of your customers. For example, you might include tools for account management, order tracking, or customer support.

  • Keeping these features separate from your main website can help improve the user experience and make it easier for customers to interact with your business.

Overall, using a subdomain and dedicated WordPress installation for your customer portal is a smart way to keep your website organized, improve the user experience, and meet the unique needs of your customers.

Tip 1 - Register a new dedicated domain for the sites launched by your customer.

When you're setting up a platform to host client or customer sites, it's important to consider how you'll manage those sites and what domain they will be hosted on. Many platforms use what's called a **"deployment domain" **- a separate domain that's used specifically for hosting customer sites.

In summary, using a dedicated deployment domain is important for both SEO and customer clarity reasons. By clearly separating your main business domain from your customer sites, you can improve your search rankings, enhance the user experience, and make it easier for both search engines and customers to understand the relationship between your business and your customer sites.

One important reason for using a deployment domain is to help with SEO (search engine optimization). When you use your main business domain to host customer sites, it can be confusing for search engines to understand the relationship between your business and the individual customer sites. This can result in lower search rankings and less visibility for both your business and your customers.

By using a separate deployment domain, you can clearly distinguish between your business website and your customer sites. This can help search engines better understand the purpose of each domain and improve your search rankings.

Another reason to use a deployment domain is for customer clarity. If you host customer sites on your main business domain, it can be confusing for customers to understand which parts of the site are related to your business and which are related to the individual customers. By using a dedicated deployment domain, you can clearly separate your business website from your customer sites, which can help improve the user experience and reduce confusion.

When choosing a deployment domain, it's important to use a domain that's connected to your brand, but not your actual domain. This can help maintain a clear distinction between your business website and your customer sites, while still promoting your brand. For example, you might choose a domain like .my-business-sites-io or something similar that clearly indicates that the sites hosted on that domain are related to your business, but not part of your main website.
